Nigerian Partnership for Education Project (NIPEP) is working to improve quality and access to basic education in five states, with particular focus on girls’ participation. The five states are: Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa and Sokoto.
The Project has 3 components:
- Promoting school effectiveness and improved learning outcomes.
- Increasing access to basic education for out-of-school children, especially girls.
- Strengthening management system.
To measure the impact of the NIPEP intervention, the EGRA was used to collect data on P2 pupils literacy skills in Hausa, and P3 pupils literacy skills in Hausa and English in the 5 states.
The EGRA results will be compared to the 2013 EGRA results in Sokoto. Then for Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa, the 2019 results will be compared to the 2014 EGRA in order to measure pupils progress in Hausa and English literacy.
In addition to the EGRA, data was collected on Teachers of P2 and P3 classes, as well as the headteacher of the schools that were in the sample. Data on classroom inventory for P2 and P3 were also collected.
EARC was contracted by NIPEP to conduct this study.
